Club History

Gymnastics is a lifestyle, not only a sport. It is the foundation of all sports, with something for every age and ability.

Eastern Gymnastics Club was formed on January 1st, 2010, combining the former Box Hill Gymnastics Club and Whitehorse Gymnastic Club.

Box Hill Gymnastics Club, formally known as Box Hill Memorial Youth Centre, was founded in 1958 and has been operating since then as a non-profit community gymnastics club. The club has had 3 venues, moving to Box Hill Primary School in 1998.

Box Hill Gymnastics Club has been recognised for its contribution to the community, being nominated in 1998 as General Gymnastics Club of the Year and in 2006 winning Whitehorse Sports Club of the Year. It has also produced a number of high level gymnasts, including the 2005 state Level 6 Champion, 3 State Level 10 gymnasts and countless Gymstar Championships teams.

Expanding from a mere 35 members to over 150 now participating today, the club has been growing stronger whilst enabling many children in the area a chance to learn and enjoy gymnastics.

The club promotes a balanced lifestyle and therefore runs an innovative competitive program where gymnasts are required to train a maximum of 10 hours a week. In addition, the club is heavily involved in the Gymstar program, allowing recreational and semi-competitive gymnasts to compete in a friendly environment.

Gymnast of the Year

The 'Gymnast of the Year' award has been presented to a squad gymnast within the club since 2001, and a Gymstar gymnast since 2005, based on:
  • Performance at competitions throughout the year
  • Attitude towards training
  • Attendance
  • Improvement
  • Attitude towards coach and squad members
  • Performance at Club Championships
