Men's Artistic Gymnastics

Are you looking for an action packed sport that burns energy and keeps active boys entertained?

Three gymnasts

Men's Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) is the perfect sport to teach boys focus and self-discipline - skills that can assist with their learning and concentration. It builds strength, enhances co-ordination and agility, and develops posture and confident body movement, including the ability to land safely. For more details about what the sport entails, look at Gymnastics Australia's information.

The MAG Coordinator is Dion Pocklington. If you have any questions about the program specifically, in particular the National program, you can contact him by email, or alternatively you can contact the office at any time.

We offer a competitive National squad program for which entry is by selection. Gymnasts in this program train between 4 and 12 hours each week. We also offer a State program.

Selection Criteria

  • Overall body strength
  • Body control
  • Natural flexibility
  • Willingness to train hard
  • Desire to improve and succeed
It’s preferable that gymnasts meet all of the above criteria but exceptions can be made depending on the gymnast.

Selection Process

Gymnasts can be selected at any age from the Gymfun Program or MAG State Levels Program. Coaches can request that gymnasts be assessed based on the selection criteria by the MAG Coordinator. The MAG coordinator will then decide whether it is more beneficial for the gymnast to remain in their current program or to be moved across to the National Program.

Competitions

There is an approximate three month period during term two and term three where the majority of competitions take place however there will be opportunities for level tests at various times throughout the whole year.

Gymnasts will be required to achieve different scores at different levels in order to successfully pass that level and move on to the next.

Gymnasts will participate in approximately two Invitationals and two Trials where they will have the opportunity to qualify and be selected for the Victorian and Australian Championships. If a gymnast is selected for the Australian Championships it is not compulsory for them to attend as it can be costly and held anywhere around Australia.
