Children aged between one and five years old work best with individual instruction and individual help in waiting, listening, learning new skills and interacting socially with other children. Kindergym is a special time for children, with their parent/grownup, to play and have fun in a safe, stimulating, structured and multisensory environment. The equipment is set up with many inbuilt challenges that encourages the child and explore and experience many types of movement, activities and interaction.

Children have the opportunity to learn, practice and play during the Kindergym sessions which usually have a routine of free play, warm up, group time activities and circuit work. Group time is where the children are taught gymnastic based skills appropriate to their age and development. Circuit time is designed to reinforce these skills. Classes are based around a theme, with a new topic and equipment set up every two weeks. It is designed to develop the whole child - socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively - and is conducted in a safe, environment.

The Kindy Kids class is an independent group aimed at those starting school the following year. As the gymnasts participate in this class without their parents it develops independence, the ability to listen and follow instructions, taking turns, teamwork and lots of skills needed to prepare the children for school and to progress on to the after school gymnastics program.

What to wear

Something comfortable. Shorts and t-shirts, leggings or track pants are ideal. A leotard (if you have one) is fun for the girls. Dresses and skirts are not acceptable and are not appropriate for climbing and playing at Kindergym. For safety reasons shoes and socks will be removed before going on any equipment.

Make up classes

If children are sick or you miss a class due to unforeseen circumstances, make-up classes are available on most days but must be booked with your coach to ensure that our classes do not get too full.

Siblings

Siblings on the floor are not something we encourage as it takes away from the one on one time you spend with your kindergymnast, but it is offered as a last resort. We would encourage all of these siblings to join their own class where they can participate fully in an age-appropriate class. Brothers and sisters are not permitted on the floor unless they are insured. If the sibling is insured they are NOT permitted to participate in the class, they must be supervised at all times and should not be allowed to disrupt the session or damage equipment.

Packing up

Kindergym uses a LOT of equipment, so the coaches are always grateful to accept any offers of help when packing up at the end of the Kindy Kids class.

Class sizes are capped at 16 to allow for maximum enjoyment therefore bookings are essential.

Our Kindergym Coordinator is Sue Faulkner. If you have any questions, you can contact the office, or for a specific enquiry, you can email her.
